Macon Rotary's annual Shrimpfest is set for 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, according to the Macon Area Chamber of Commerce calendar.

The Chamber listing describes an all-you-can-eat meal of chilled and broiled shrimp and prime rib. Tickets are $60 a person.

Macon's fall citywide garage-sale weekend opens Friday and continues Saturday, according to the Macon Area Chamber of Commerce calendar.

The Chamber listing titled Macon City Fall Garage Sale Weekend says Friday sales run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday sales run from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. An earlier registration notice said registration for the weekend closed at 3 p.m. Sept. 10 after opening Aug. 1.

That Sept. 10 deadline was the last published signup window on the Chamber page. The listing still tells people to follow the Chamber's Facebook page for updates. It does not name a registration fee, publish a sale map, or name an in-person desk for late additions.

A Veterans 5K Run billed with the 1438th Engineer Company is listed for Saturday, Nov. 7, at Long Branch Lake in Macon, according to the Macon Area Chamber of Commerce calendar.

The Chamber listing shows 9 to 11:30 a.m. and titles the event “a run for it” with the 1438th Engineer Company, a Missouri Army National Guard unit based in Macon. The page does not list registration details, a fee, a street address beyond Long Branch Lake, or a rain plan.

Almost all of Macon County is free of abnormal dryness on the latest U.S. Drought Monitor map, a sharp change from a week earlier when most of the county was still marked D0.

The Macon Chronicle reported last week that the map valid Sept. 15 showed 85.67% of the county in the D0 abnormally dry category and 14.33% with no dryness classification. The new map, released Thursday and valid Sept. 22 through Sept. 28, shows 99.65% of the county with no dryness classification and only 0.35% still in D0, according to U.S. Drought Monitor county statistics for Macon County.
