Macon R-1 proposes $3.4515 levy; tax-rate hearing is Tuesday

Macon County R-1 will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, on a proposed 2026-27 property tax rate of $3.4515 per $100 of assessed valuation, up from $3.3757.

The district tax-rate hearing notice says the hearing is at 902 N. Missouri St. Citizens may be heard on the rates the board proposes to set. The open-session agenda lists the hearing at 6 p.m., before the regular meeting, and a later vote to approve the 2026-27 tax rate as presented. Both are on the district agendas page.

Assessed valuation for 2026-27 is $158,354,464, up from $153,920,622. Real estate is $108,946,140. Personal property is $49,408,324. New construction inside that total is $1,084,760.

If the proposed rates are collected in full, the district would take in $5,465,604, against $5,195,898 last year.

Incidental would be $2.9917 per $100, raising $4,737,490 (was $2.9159 and $4,488,171). Capital projects stay at $0.4598, raising $728,114 (was $707,727). Teacher and debt service remain $0.

New operating revenue is $269,706. Of that, $169,398 is from new construction and $100,308 from reassessment, or 1.93 percent of new revenue from reassessment.
