Two countywide ballot measures will appear before Macon County voters on April 7.
Capital Improvement County Sales Tax
Voters will decide whether to continue the existing half-cent sales tax (0.5%) used for construction of county bridges, road improvements, and equipment purchases. The ballot language emphasizes this is a continuation of the present rate — not a new tax or an increase — and that it must be reapproved by voters every five years.
Question 1: Property Tax Freeze
Voters will also decide whether Macon County should exempt eligible taxpayers from property tax increases above their primary residence during the initial credit year. The Missouri Association of County Developmental Disabilities Services has raised concerns statewide that property tax caps could limit funding for services including programs for people with developmental disabilities, public schools, and emergency services.
How to Vote
Both questions appear on every Macon County ballot regardless of municipality. Polls are open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7. Contact the Macon County Clerk at 660-385-2913 for your polling location.
