Macon County man charged with felony child abuse after baby monitor recording

MACON — A Macon County man is charged with a class D felony after Macon police said a baby monitor recorded him squeezing an infant’s face early Monday morning.

Dylan C. Pagliai is charged with abuse or neglect of a child under Section 568.060.5, RSMo, in Macon County Circuit Court case 26MA-CR00231. Macon County Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Meisner filed the complaint Aug. 17.

According to a probable cause statement written by Macon Police Officer Chase Harrington, video from a baby monitor camera shows Pagliai yelling and cursing at a crying infant at about 2:13 a.m. Aug. 17. Footage recorded at 2:41 a.m. shows Pagliai placing his right hand over the infant’s mouth and jaw area and squeezing while yelling “stop,” Harrington wrote.

The infant’s mother watched the event on the camera and asked that the child be brought to her workplace, according to the statement. Harrington wrote that he observed redness and bruising on the infant’s right and left cheek.

The complaint alleges Pagliai knowingly caused a child under 18 years of age to suffer physical injury by squeezing the victim’s jaw area, causing it to bruise. A class D felony carries a range of punishment of one to seven years in the custody of the Missouri Department of Corrections; up to one year in the county jail; a fine of up to $10,000; or both a fine and imprisonment.

Bond was set at $10,000 cash and posted Aug. 18. .

Charges are allegations. Pagliai is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
