April 7 Election: Mayor’s Race, Four Ward Contests, and School Board on the Ballot

Macon voters head to the polls on April 7 to decide a contested mayor’s race, four city council seats, and three spots on the Macon R-I School Board.

Mayor’s Race

The race for mayor pits Patrick Nasi against current Ward 2 Councilman Talt Holman. Holman currently serves on the city council representing Ward 2.

City Council

All four wards have contested races on the ballot:

Ward 1: Derek Teter challenges incumbent Steve Olinger for a two-year term.

Ward 2: A three-way race between incumbent Steve Iwanowicz, Teresa Thrasher, and Eric Moots. This is the most crowded council race on the ballot.

Ward 3: Craig VanDerAa faces Teresa Ulrich in an open-seat race — neither is a current council member.

Ward 4: Rick Montgomery challenges incumbent Cheryl Blaise.

Rebecca J. Sims is running unopposed for City Collector.

Macon R-I School Board

Four candidates are running for three seats on the Board of Education, each for a three-year term: Nick Dille, Millicent Belt Dawdy, Caleb Mader, and Bruce Weimer. One candidate will be eliminated.

Polls are open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7. No-excuse absentee voting is available now through April 6 at the Macon County Clerk’s office, 101 E. Washington St. Voters need a valid photo ID — Missouri driver’s license, state ID, U.S. passport, or military ID.
