The Macon County R-I Board of Education is asking students, parents, staff, and community members to weigh in on what the district should look for in its next superintendent, according to a survey posted on Superintendent Bryan Thomsen's Roar Report page.
The Superintendent Search Stakeholder Survey asks for input on leadership priorities, personal attributes, and professional qualifications. It is anonymous, should take about five minutes, and sends responses directly to EdGovLead Transition Services, a brand of Education Governance and Leadership also known as EGL, the firm running the search, the Roar Report says.
The survey is at https://forms.gle/qTy6G5KKocBpt4ne8. Neither the Roar Report page nor the form lists a closing date.
Respondents first identify as teacher or staff, student, administrator, or other. They then choose the two leadership priorities, three personal attributes, and four qualifications or experiences they consider most important for the next superintendent, according to the form.
Leadership choices include public education leadership, curriculum and instructional leadership, trust and relationships, team leadership, innovation and forward thinking, and effective communication. Attribute choices include being collaborative and a consensus builder, community-focused, detail-oriented, of high character and integrity, innovative and creative, knowledgeable and highly competent, open-minded and accessible, and student-centered.
Qualification choices include a doctoral degree, prior service as a superintendent, classroom teacher, or Missouri public school administrator, leadership in curriculum and instruction, school and district communications, school-community relationships, operations and facilities, budgets and finances, visibility and accessibility, and leading improvements in student achievement.
The Macon Chronicle reported that the board hired EGL on a 5-1-1 vote Aug. 18 to run the next superintendent search with a finance addition. Nick Dille voted against the hire, and Board President Stacy Quinn abstained, according to approved minutes. At a Sept. 2 work session, the agenda listed Jim Hinson of EGL, and the approved minutes recorded no discussion or further board action under that heading, the Chronicle reported.
The district posted a District Superintendent Opening page that the district's site marks as published Sept. 10. Applications go to EdGovLead Transition Services in Blue Springs and must be emailed and mailed. The opening page lists an application deadline of Dec. 1, 2026, interviews the week of Dec. 7, 2026, board action in December 2026, and a contract start in July 2027.
At the board's Oct. 21 meeting, Quinn said EGL was still taking applications and would send a staff and community survey in November, the Chronicle reported. Quinn also said EGL's financial review should reach the board in mid to late November.
