A new Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper will begin work in Macon and Shelby counties next month, according to the patrol.
Trooper Cyrus L. Tague has been assigned to Troop B's Zone 2, which covers the two counties, according to a news release Friday from Capt. Brian N. Anderson, commanding officer of the Macon-based troop. Tague is one of five new troopers assigned to Troop B. All five will report for duty Nov. 2.
Tague is a native of Columbia and graduated from David H. Hickman High School there, according to the release. He earned a bachelor's degree in general studies from Columbia College and serves in the Army National Guard as a rotary-wing aviator.
The five were members of the patrol's 126th Recruit Class, which graduated Friday from the patrol's Law Enforcement Academy. The class of 33 troopers spent 25 weeks at the academy, according to a separate patrol release.
Two others were assigned to zones that include counties bordering Macon County. Trooper Ephraim N. Black, a native of Columbia, was assigned to Zone 3, Linn and Chariton counties. Trooper Christopher D. Barton, a native of Maryland Heights, was assigned to Zone 5, Adair and Schuyler counties.
Troopers Alexander P. Karigan, a native of Sedalia, and Scott G. Sankey, a native of Freeburg, were assigned to Zone 4, Putnam and Sullivan counties. At the graduation, Sankey received the Colonel C. E. "Mel" Fisher Superintendent's Award, which goes to the recruit with the most overall points in physical fitness, firearms, and academics, according to the patrol.
