The City of Macon is accepting sealed bids for three separate contracts this spring, covering road construction materials, nuisance property abatement services, and hay baling at the municipal airport.
Deadlines fall April 8-9; contracts cover full year or multiple seasons
Road and construction materials
The city and Macon Municipal Utilities are soliciting fixed-price bids for road materials to be delivered on demand throughout 2026. The bid covers a wide range of aggregate, including an estimated 2,000 tons of 3/8-inch clean washed chips, 2,000 tons of white surface rock, 1,000 tons of clean washed rock, and smaller quantities of crusher run, rip-rap, pea gravel, and shot rock. The city is also seeking bids for 6-bag and 8-bag concrete and fill sand for street repair work.
All material must meet Missouri Standard Specifications for Highway Construction. Prices must be all-inclusive, with delivery to any location within the city and no additional fees. Bids are due by noon on Wednesday, April 8.
Nuisance abatement
The city is also accepting bids for nuisance abatement services — mowing overgrown properties, clearing brush and debris, and securing vacant buildings. Contractors must bid each service separately at an hourly rate. Work must begin within five working days of a notice to proceed and be completed within ten working days.
Contractors are required to carry $1 million in liability coverage, $2 million aggregate, and provide proof of workers’ compensation insurance. The city will pay for materials used to secure buildings but bidders must supply their own equipment. Bids are due by noon on Thursday, April 9, addressed to City Clerk Mary Lou Craigg at City Hall.
Airport hay baling
The city is seeking a contractor to bale hay at Fower Memorial Airport and a nearby Vine Street property for a three-year period covering the 2026, 2027, and 2028 seasons. Bids should state a price per bale along with the size and approximate weight. Bales must be removed outside the runway object-free area — at least 500 feet from the runway — immediately after baling.
Payment is made within 30 days of a count confirmation from city staff. The winning bidder must carry liability insurance listing the city as an additional insured. Bids are due April 8.
All bids should be sealed and mailed or delivered to Macon City Hall, 106 West Bourke Street, P.O. Box 569, Macon, MO 63552. Full bid specifications are available on the city’s bids and RFPs page. Questions on the materials bid can be directed to City Hall at 660-385-6421. Interested parties for the airport hay bid can contact Recreation and Transportation Superintendent David Coleman at 660-385-2632 to view the properties.
The city reserves the right to reject any or all bids on each contract.
