The Macon R-I Board of Education approved two middle school wrestling coaches and accepted the retirement of high school building secretary Kimberly Heaton in closed session Sept. 16, according to draft minutes posted by the district.
Dixee Lacen was approved as middle school girls head wrestling coach for the 2026-27 school year on a 6-0 vote, the minutes say. Owen Milburn was approved as middle school boys head wrestling coach on a 5-1 vote. Board member Lydia McClellan cast the no vote on Milburn's appointment, according to the minutes.
Kurt Howell was approved as a high school volunteer football coach for 2026-27 on a 6-0 vote, the minutes say.
The board also approved four English learner SOAR paraprofessionals for 2026-27: Allison Ulmer, Dakota Nute, Lilly Stoneburner, and Stacy Boatman, each on 6-0 votes. Ana Oliver was moved from part-time English language learner para to full-time English language learner and special education paraprofessional on a 6-0 vote, according to the minutes.
Heaton's retirement as high school building secretary is effective Nov. 1, 2026, the minutes say. That motion carried 6-0.
The board also approved the monthly substitute teacher list on a 6-0 vote.
President Stacy Quinn called the closed session to order at 5:01 p.m. in the district board room, 902 N. Missouri St. Members present were Nick Dille, Greg Bruno, Quinn, McClellan, Millicent Dawdy, and Bruce Weimer. Donny Wyatt was absent. Superintendent Dr. Bryan Thomsen also attended, the minutes say.
The draft minutes record a motion to re-enter closed session at 6:43 p.m. and do not list further votes after that re-entry.
