A Heat Advisory is in effect for Macon County from noon Monday through 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2.
The National Weather Service in Kansas City and Pleasant Hill said heat index values of up to 103 are expected. The advisory also covers Adair, Linn, Chariton, Randolph, and Sullivan counties.
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses, the Weather Service said. It said overnight relief will be limited.
The Weather Service said to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening.
The Missouri State Emergency Management Agency Watch Center said Monday that it is monitoring heat and drought. The drought alert is for south-central, southeastern, and southwestern Missouri, not Macon County.
