Truman State’s women’s soccer team opened its 2026 slate with a 4-1 exhibition loss at Marquette on Aug. 19 at Valley Fields in Milwaukee. The result does not count toward the Bulldogs’ record, which stands at 0-0 heading into the regular season.
Marquette, a Division I program, controlled the first half and led 3-0 at the break. Jocelyn Leigh scored in the ninth minute off a feed from Ella McAleenan. Olivia Hernandez added a second five minutes later. Haley Christianson made it three in the 25th minute, assisted by Callie Hefner. Carly Christopher scored again just after the hour mark.
Truman did not register a shot in the first half. All five of its attempts came after halftime. Meghan Knust, a redshirt sophomore midfielder from Grain Valley, converted a penalty kick in the 81st minute for the Bulldogs’ only goal.
Marquette finished with 14 shots to Truman’s five and held a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. The Golden Eagles took nine corner kicks to Truman’s four and were whistled for 10 fouls to Truman’s six. There were no cautions or ejections.
Truman split time in goal. Siman Loethen went just over 60 minutes with four saves and four goals allowed; Mikayla Thomas played the final half hour with one save and none allowed.
The Bulldogs open the regular season at home on Thursday, Aug. 27, against Davenport University at 5 p.m. at Stokes Stadium as part of Student and Community Appreciation Week.
