Drivers who use Route O through Bevier should treat Monday through Thursday as a closed-road week in town, and anyone headed east on U.S. 36 should expect a shorter Monday lane restriction, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Aug. 14 northeast Missouri work list from the Hannibal district.
Here is the driver-facing schedule. All Route O closures are listed for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. MoDOT described the work as culvert replacement. The list maps three adjoining stretches over four days.
Monday, Aug. 17: Route O closed from Hickory Street to Hardwood Street near Bevier.
Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Wednesday, Aug. 19: Route O closed from Hardwood Street to Route OO near Bevier, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Thursday, Aug. 20: Route O closed from Route OO to Ironwood Avenue near Bevier.
Read that as a rolling shutdown that walks through town, one culvert stretch at a time. MoDOT’s Friday release does not name a signed detour, does not say whether local access stays open, and does not say whether school-bus routes will be moved. Until MoDOT posts a signed route, this story will not tell drivers where to go. Watch field signs. Check the traveler map at traveler.modot.org/map.
The same Monday, Aug. 17, MoDOT will restrict a lane on eastbound U.S. 36 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for bridge maintenance a quarter-mile before and after the Middle Fork Little Chariton River bridge. That is a lane restriction, not a full closure.
Weather can change the schedule.
Separately, the larger U.S. 63 interchange job over U.S. 36 in Macon remains in progress, with an Oct. 1, 2026, completion target on MoDOT project pages. Related work still listed includes U.S. 36 resurfacing between Bevier and Macon, plus ADA sidewalks in Ethel, La Plata, South Gifford, College Mound, and Elmer.
