Macon Tigers Top Palmyra 17-5, Claim Second Straight District Title

Macon and Palmyra met Tuesday afternoon with a Class 4 District 7 championship on the line, a rematch of last year’s title game. Macon won 17-5, punching its ticket to state sectionals and capturing back-to-back district crowns.

The Tigers struck for three runs in the opening frame on a two-run home run by Hagan Ritter, who came straight from the state golf tournament earlier in the day (where he finished second) to suit up for the game. Macon piled on through the second inning to push the lead to 8-0.

Palmyra answered strong. Ty Haskins drove in two runs with a double, and Raeson Miller followed with a three-run homer over the fence to cut the deficit to 8-5.

That was as close as the Panthers would get. Macon’s bats came back to life with a pair of grand slams later in the game, blowing the lead open and closing out a 17-5 win.

The Tigers move on to state sectionals; Palmyra’s season ends under Macon’s bats, one win short of the district title for the second consecutive year.
